Be Secure, Even on the Go

Sunday, January 16th, 2011

It’s easy to leave important items behind-they slide under beds in hotel rooms; into seats in airplanes, taxicabs, and restaurants; or onto the floor when you’re working at other places of business. Getting back forgotten items can be murder-if you’re lucky enough to ever see them again. Leaving stuff behind can be embarrassing or even damaging in certain situations. So thoroughly check that you have all your belongings before you walk out the door.

WHAT IT MEANS: In a mobile society, people are constantly rushing. They constantly race from place to place at breakneck speed because they’re running late. Frequently, they’re loaded down with enough electronic equipment, paperwork, and gear to run a military command center. Many items they tote are valuable and difficult, if not impossible, to replace. Getting them back or replacing them usually takes far more time than making sure that nothing was left.

ACTION PLAN: Form the habit of taking inventory of your valuables. Establish a system. For example, before you leave your home or office, lay out every item you plan to take and note it mentally. If you don’t trust your memory, make a list or enter it in your PDA or your computer-but be sure not to leave it during your travels. Before you leave places other than your home or office, check carefully to make sure everything is accounted for.

EVEN BETTER: Count the number of valuable items you take with you. While in transit, try to recall what each item is. Then, before you leave any place you stop, check that you have the number of items you should.

NETWORKING ISN’T NEW

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

http://www.author101university.com
A number of recent publications have heralded networking as the new wonder drug that will enable you to thrive in either a slumping or a booming economy. They give the impression that simply by following a few relatively easy steps, presto chango, you can propel the smallest, most obscure business straight to the top of the Fortune Five Hundred list. Or you could meet the perfect partner, get the ideal job or otherwise strike the mother lode.
First, lets clarify that networking isn’t new; it’s been around as long as our species. Until recently networking was referred to as being “well connected,” having “contacts” or a great Rolodex. It’s something we’ve heard about all of our lives, but with different names. It’s an age-old process of exchanging leads, referrals, tips and recommendations; it’s mutual support alliances. Whenever someone recommends
a restaurant, a travel agent or a book, that’s networking. Networking isn’t new and it isn’t some miraculous potion that you can gulp down at night before bed that will cure whatever ails you by the next morning.
Undeniably, networking is a valuable tool. Reports claim that over 80 percent of all jobs are obtained through networking. Clearly, networking can boost sales and increase profits. It can help you find a wonderful place to live, a great caterer and an endless stream of supportive services that will lighten your load. However, these benefits are little more than byproducts that emanate from something substantially larger and vastly more important.
The essence of networking is surrounding yourself with outstanding, caring and helpful people. It’s building mutually supportive relationships with those who will happily help you, it’s the process of making and spending time with close friends. Networking is more than a career, marketing or social tactic, it’s a way of life. And it doesn’t occur overnight! New York attorney Richard Solomon put it best when he said,

“The object in life is to be rich in the resource of people.” And we agree! Nothing is more important or will enrich your life as greatly as forging close personal relationships, which is what networking provides.

Happy New Year- Here are 5 ways to get publicity

Sunday, January 2nd, 2011

Five Ways to Get Powerful Publicity

The first way to get media coverage is to tie your book’s message to the things that are making news.
The second way is to anticipate the news.Check your calendar and look to see what holidays are coming up.
Memorial Day means:
War
Security
International relations
Death,
History, etc.
Father’s Day means:
Dads
Grandfathers,
Parenting,
Family, etc.
Can you speak on those topics?

Also, think of how your message ties into a season, or an honorary day, week or month.
The third way is to actually make news with the results of your research, surveys, interviews with important people, or the uncovering of hidden facts. Even if your book lacks original earth-shattering news, perhaps you can create a poll of 500 people on your subject and then report those results.
The fourth way is to give out news we can use.If you can shed light on the newest treatments for a disease or effective parenting strategies or tell us the three smartest ways to save for retirement, people will listen.

The fifth and final way is to raise an issue or ask a question. For instance, declare something interesting or controversial. Should pets be allowed to sue for health care? Should we eliminate the presidency and instead have three co-presidents? Should there be a legal limit on how much someone can weigh? Should people who have cosmetic surgery be forced to disclose this to the people they date?
