Top Tips on how to best prepare for an interview

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Write down the five main points you want to cover.
List anecdotes, facts, or jokes that help you make each point effectively.
Anticipate the questions interviewers are likely to ask and prepare answers that include your main points. It helps to study the host’s prior-interviews to find his/her favorite questions and approaches so you’ll know what to expect and how to respond.
Keep answers and explanations simple. Complex information tends to lose or bore interviewers and audiences.
Never try to steal the limelight from the host or interviewer. Your job is to make them look good, while getting your main points across.
Practice by having friends and family pretend they’re the interviewer and question you.
When you practice, videotape yourself or stand in front of a mirror to observe your performance. Be conscious of your posture, facial expressions and gestures.
Ask your interviewer to honestly appraise your performance.
When friends and family aren’t available to help, interview yourself aloud.

Fill in the blank Pitch Formula

Fill in the blank Pitch Formula
===============================================
As I promised in my last tip, here’s another great
fill-in-the-blank formula you can use to create a show pitch
that is guaranteed to grab a producer’s attention virtually every
time … (Please forward this e-mail to anyone it might help)

* Pitch Formula:  “Is/are your __________________ destroying
your ________ ? ___ ways to stop them now.”

And here’s a couple of examples of how you might apply it:

Show Pitch:  “Are your doctors destroying your health?
3 ways to stop them now.”

Show Pitch:  “Are your children destroying your marriage?
5 ways to stop them now.”

In your field there are many things that people treasure …
and those things are always in danger of being destroyed by
someone or something. That’s where you come in … you are
there with the solutions to protect people from losing that
which is important to them.

Just came back from Author101University

It was a wonderful event

Here are some e mails that just came in:

Dear Rick –

I could say “thank you” in every single language on this planet and it would not be enough for the information and inspiration that you and the other speakers at Author 101 University gave me.

Over the last two days, I gained so much insight into the publishing, marketing and speaking worlds, and so much confidence it’s unbelievable. The truly weird thing is — I don’t know how I got on the email lists where I learned about your program. All I know is, I’m glad I listened to my intuition and signed up for it.

Last night I worked into the wee hours and again this morning, I was so inspired.

Saturday at lunch I wrote a detailed outline for a completely new book based on a vague idea I had two years ago, thanks to James Malinchak’s description of the college speaking market and turning a mess/turning point/success into a book and a presentation. Genius!

Thanks to Craig Duswalt’s insight into “little books” I’m getting off my duff and finishing a book that I’m passionate about but didn’t think was long enough. Plus, I’m turning another idea into a series of 5 little books.

Alex’s  Carroll’s PR tips — can’t wait to use those. And tonight I ordered 7 domains on your domain site, http://www.rickscheapdomains.com and ordered a bunch of ISBNs.

Talk about turbo-charged!! I have the March Author 101 on my calendar. I live in Vegas, so it’ll be a quick hop over to LA. I’m going to recommend it to other new author friends as well.

I only mentioned a few of the presenters in this email, but I learned from every single one of them. You did a fantastic job assembling these speakers. My head is spinning a bit; I’m sure once I digest it all, I’ll have even more praise for the program.

Thank you for being the spark plug!

Warmly,

Deanne Rymarowicz
