Happy New Year everyone!
Whenever you are in a greenroom and about to do a media interview- play
nice with the other guests. Yes you are all fighting to get as much time
as possible- but if you make friends with your fellow guests before you go
on the air- great things can happen. I recently appeared on Fox Business
News and met fabulous people in the “ greenroom” ( the room you sit in
just before you go on the air). I got their cards, gave them copies of my
book and asked them how I could help them.
I did not realize it at the time- but these people were about to be on
the show with me and were there to help the hosts interview me! Thank
goodness they were now my buddies- Be nice to everyone- You never know
when they will show up in your life—– a year from now- or in 10
minutes when you are on the air.

To Appearing On America’s Top Talk Show’
3. The next update to their TV database … absolutely f.ree!
More details below …
———-
If you’ve been on my list for awhile, you know I rave about this
database all the time. It’s just like my database of all the top
radio shows, except it’s for TV. If you want to get on the big TV
shows, you need this database.
They list all the contact and pitching info for shows like: Oprah,
Good Morning America, The Today Show, 60 Minutes, Larry King,
20/20, Letterman, Montel, The View, Regis & Kelly, 48 Hours,
Dr. Phil, 700 Club, Fox News, CNN, and the list just goes on and
on and on. If it’s a big TV show, it’s in here.
They go into great detail with each listing telling you who to
pitch and how to pitch them, and they also tell you what kinds of
guests they look for … and which ones they don’t.
For example, you’ll get answers to questions like these: What
does Jay Leno’s producer say is the only way to contact the
program? How do you pitch a segment idea to Dateline NBC? Which
shows say they ignore all unsolicited faxes? Which producers want
to be pitched by email - which get incredibly annoyed by it? What
should you not do when pitching The View? … etc., etc.,
It’s the best … and it comes with my highest recommendation.

Book publishers are publishing more titles than ever – but selling fewer copies of each. They are trying to match the ever diverse and fickle passions of the consumer. This past year, according to Books In Print, over 412, 000 new books were published. To promote those books, publishers are:
As technology changes how we get our information and entertainment, it also changes how we promote them. But what hasn’t changed, in an ever-growing competitive media landscape, is the need to promote these information products. The economic downturn, though it is impacting the publishing world, may provide a good opportunity to those who choose to invest in publicizing their books. Because some are scaling back on the number of books they are promoting, it gives those that are promoting their books a chance at less competition and more visibility. Consistent PR efforts and savvy marketing have always served a purpose, aside from generating immediate sales, which is to generate buzz for a brand, to create credibility for an author, and to advance a message. There is no question that if one doesn’t market their book it will severely hamper its ability to sell.
Publishers and authors should heed one bit of advice: even during a period of economic slowdown, one fundamental hasn’t changed — PR pays off.

As I promised in my last tip, here’s another great fill-in-the-blank formula you can use to create a show pitch that is guaranteed to grab a producer’s attention virtually every time
* Pitch Formula: “How to survive ____________”
And here’s a couple of examples of how you might apply it:
> Show Pitch: “How to survive your spouse’s family reunion”
> Show Pitch: “How to survive the upcoming hurricane season”
This formula is again similar to the last two I’ve sent you in that you’re identifying something that people don’t like or are uncomfortable with, except now, instead of telling them how to get out of it or avoid it, you’re telling them how to get through it.
The secret to this formula is to find things that are unpleasant, but unavoidable.
